We have great personal friendships with all of our trainers and and it is those friendships we want to extend to the people who join Chelsea Thoroughbreds as owners.
Richard has achieved a quite remarkable feat of becoming 2014 Champion trainer in just his first year in charge since taking over from his father Richard Snr. He notched up a Classic winner with Night of Thunder and numerous Group & Royal Ascot winners along the way. Having been assistant to his father for 12 years, he was certainly no rookie, and has very smoothly kept this power house yard of 250+ horses at the very top of the Thoroughbred world, and looks set to continue.
Charlie has been lucky enough to work closely with many Classic & Group winners as assistant to his father Barry. In 2013, in his first year training under his own name, Charlie trained his own Classic winner with Just The Judge in the Irish 1,000 Guineas for a combined ownership team of Qatari Sheikh Fahad & the Sangster family. Further group winners came flowing throughout the year, culminating in a quite breathtaking performance in Breeders Cup winner Chriselliam at Santa Anita, USA. Faringdon Place, just outside Lambourn, has 150+ horses with Charlie at the helm & some of the most modern facilities in the area.
Ralph is in his 19th season as a trainer & 9th at Kimpton Down Stables near Andover, with his 14th season having been his best to date. A multiple Classic winner including an incredible 1 - 2 in the 2013 Epsom Oaks emulated the great Sir Noel Murless' achievement 41 years previously & helped him to accumulate over a million pounds in prize money. Group winners have come in both Europe & the UK and a wonderful Breeders Cup winner in 2008 with "Muhannak" at Santa Anita. With 125+ boxes now at Ralph's disposal there is surely only more of the same to come.
Andrew has remarkably - given his age, been in charge at Park House Stables in Kingsclere, near Newbury for over a decade having succeeded his father in 2003.The family history in racing runs so deep it can even boast 4 Grand National winners from the early 1900's. There's nothing Andrew hasn't experienced in racing having been an amateur jockey & winning 20 races before a career in training came calling. Group 1 successes in England, Dubai, Hong Kong & Canada sit nicely along side his Classic Oaks winner 'Casual Look' at Epsom in just his first year of training. Andrew can also list Her Majesty the Queen as an owner amongst his 175+ horses.
In just five seasons of training Charlie Fellowes has achieved an impressive amount and overall holds a 14% winner to runner strike rate. In 2016 he celebrated his first stakes winner in MOONLIT SHOW and over the past three years he has achieved black type with ACCESSION, WET SAIL, KASSEOPIA and THIS IS THE DAY. More recently, Charlie celebrated the biggest win in his career in the Lexus Stakes at Flemington (Australia) with a horse called PRINCE OF ARRAN who just three days later ran a brilliant third in the Melbourne cup. We are thrilled to have Charlie on board the Chelsea Thoroughbreds team for the 2019 season.
Martyn Meade trained his first winner back in 1972 and has trained many winners under both rules whilst continuing a commercial career. Having concentrated on Flat racing since the 1980's and with multiple Stakes winners, he has been successful with 2 year olds, notably the Group 1 winner Advertise. The move from Newmarket to the picturesque Manton marks a new era for Martyn and his team. The trainers commitment to everything racing is abundantly clear when entering the newly refurbished Manton which has state of the art facilities. We are delighted to have Martyn on the Chelsea Thoroughbred's team having already trained winners for Richard Morecombe.
Nicky doesn’t need much introducing, a four time champion trainer and trainer of some of the greats including Sprinter Sacre, See you then, Remittance Man and more recently Altior. He has made a great start to the 2018-2019 jumps season, and we are privileged to have such a well respected trainer on board.
Michael has been training since 1989 and has now trained nearly 1400 winners. He has trained many top class horses including MOTIVATOR to win the Derby, SARISKA to win the Oaks and ART CONNOISSEUR to win the Golden Jubilee Stakes. Michael has had a fantastic 2018 season notably with the brilliant two year old Group 1 winning filly, PRETTY POLLYANNA. We look forward to visiting the picturesque Fitzroy House Stables this year.
After completing a stint of training in America, Robert returned to England and has blossomed year on year. The “Sprint King” as some may know him has trained multiple Group 1 winners including Goldream, Prohibit and Jwala. Based just out of Newmarket, Robert has developed a reputation for being a demon at training sprinters and we are glad to have him on board as one of the Chelsea Thoroughbreds trainers.
One of the younger trainers around, Hugo Palmer cemented his training status when in 2016 Galileo Gold took the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and provided him with his first Classic success. There have been many Group winners since as well as big handicap winners and with the team behind him and his enthusiasm, it doesn’t look like this success is going to stop anytime soon. We are very pleased to have Hugo as one of the Chelsea Thoroughbreds trainers and look forward to the 2019 season.
A Champion trainer in his own right, Paul Cole has won countless Group races including the Derby with Generous and the St. Ledger with Snurge. Paul has had considerable success over the years, Royal Ascot being a place where he has excelled most having won nearly all the major races there. It is great to have Paul as one of our trainers for the 2019 season and look forward to visiting Whatcombe Racing Stables during the course of the summer.
